PS/MS 4, a 3K-8 school, located in the Bronx, NY is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Principal.  The candidate should possess and demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, management skills, and a strong work ethic.  Furthermore, the candidate should have knowledge of best practices to enhance teacher pedagogy coupled with the ability to deliver professional development, instructional coaching, and modeling to support the delivery of instruction. Lastly, the candidate should possess a leadership style that promotes trust and supports a positive school culture and learning environment.  


  • Responsible for assisting the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Responsible for developing and communicating strategic school systems to include devising a plan to achieve the collective vision of the school.
  • Responsible for implementing effective assessment systems to facilitate the use of data to inform decision-making.
  • Responsible for leading all aspects of curriculum development and assessment to ensure consistency within the school program and alignment with state and other rigorous standards.
  • Responsible for conducting daily teacher observations and providing real-time feedback to move the needle on student achievement.
  • Responsible for overseeing faculty and staff, including recruitment, evaluation, retention, and dismissal and hold primary responsibility for professional development, staff observations, curriculum development, staff communication, and program decisions.
  • Responsible for leading faculty to ensure that all staff are implementing rigorous daily lessons, reasonable and effective daily homework, and comprehensive after-school tutoring.
  • Responsible for fostering a commitment amongst staff to develop and fulfill the school's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Responsible for holding teachers accountable for meeting a high bar for student performance including requirements for all subgroups.
  • Responsible for collaborating with school staff to support students' academic and socio-emotional development.
  • Responsible for communicating regularly with families to foster and sustain positive relationships.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Responsible for collecting and analyzing current data as it relates to all content areas to drive and support daily instruction as well as devise tailored professional development offerings for staff.
  • Responsible for collaboratively designing and implementing an instructional program geared towards meeting the needs of all subgroups.
  • Responsible for effectively monitoring student attendance on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for implementing a school-wide inter-visitation program to support the sharing of best practices.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing safety procedures and drill practice activities.
  • Responsible for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Responsible for collaboratively hiring candidates for employment.
  • Responsible for supervising staff assigned by the principal.
  • Responsible for facilitating and participating in school and district committees.
  • Responsible for facilitating professional growth for all staff assigned by the principal
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
  • Responsible for educating, empowering, and challenging all students to become 
    productive, global citizens through innovative approaches to learning.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing policies to effect positive student behavior in the school and providing guidance to students, parents, and teachers on issues relating to 
    student behavior and attendance.

    Responsible for supervising, observing and evaluating all staff assigned by the principal.
  • Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned by the Principal.


  • Possess a NYS Certification as School Administrator and Supervisor and/or School District Administrator.
  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree from accredited institutions.  Course work must include Administration, Supervision and Curriculum.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Strong communication and creative thinking skills. 
  • Ability to work on a team and understand adult learners. 
  • Must be familiar and have proven practice designing instruction aligned to academic learning standards.
  • Dedication to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school
  • Interest in and passion for supporting teacher growth.
  • Grit, personal responsibility, and a commitment to continual professional growth.
  • Strong communication skills with multiple stakeholders including teachers, students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills, careful attention to detail and follow-through.
