Juneau is the third largest city in Alaska with a population of over 31,000 resting along the shoreline of the Gastineau Channel in the Panhandle of Southeast Alaska. With a temperate year-round climate, residents enjoy many outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, hunting or just exploring our beautiful landscape. There are many opportunities for snow sports enthusiasts including snowboarding or skiing at Eaglecrest Ski Area, cross-country skiing on one our many wooded trails or ice skating (indoors or outdoors). We have local performing arts groups, two museums, three libraries, two multi-screen movie theaters and an awesome school system.
The Juneau School District has a student population of approximately 5,000 students in two high schools, six elementary schools and two middle schools as well as an alternative high school, a Montessori program and a community charter school. The school district employs 750 permanent certified and classified employees.
